Description
The alliance of the Zimbabwe Homeless People’s Federation and Dialogue on Shelter in partnership with City of Harare are taking part in an exchange programme in Cape Town, South Africa. The exchange visit is part of the 5-Cities programme which involves cities with informal settlements that are under siege. The five cities include Harare, Cape Town, Kampala, Accra and Nairobi and to date, two programmes have been held in Uganda and Zimbabwe. The plan is for these five cities to share experiences around informal settlements upgrading and to date such information sharing exchanges have since been conducted in Kampala and Harare. The Cape Town programme is therefore the third exchange and is hope to showcase the partnership that has been built between the South African chapter of SDI and Cape Town Municipality around slum upgrading. In Uganda, the five cities that were in attendance identified upgrading programmes from their respective countries that would be used as the practical basis for promoting peer-to-peer learning, monitoring and evaluation. The Zimbabwean alliance selected Dzivarasekwa Extension Slum Upgrading project and they will be sharing lessons from the pilot.
